It says that if your motherboard chipset does not support SATA speed autonegotiation or SATA 3mb, then you will need to add the jumper.

It is a Hitachi 500 GB > drive: HI T7K500 500 SA. In fact, I'm quite miffed about this, because one of my last-effort guesses was to stick a jumper in here and see what happens - but I didn't bother when I I then installed XP using its bootable CD. The solution requires a jumper.
Ho gią provato,ma non cambia nulla... I don't know if has something to do with the bios, the jumper, or the tools I've used to format it. The Asus A7V600-X only supports SATA 1.5Gb/s (ie the original SATA) and therefore cannot detect this hard drive. http://66software.com/driver-sata/driver-sata-a7v600-x.html All Rights Reserved - PrivacyPolicy LinkBack LinkBack URL About LinkBacks Hardware Upgrade Forum > Componenti Hardware > Motherboard, Chipset & RAM > AIUTO A7V600-X NON MI RILEVA HD SATA PDA View I have tried to install different versions of the > corresponding VIA drivers for VT8237. This is a listing of which option ROM is included in each BIOS Asus offers for A7V600-X. The key to my success was to realize that besides the overall motherboard BIOS, there was a second BIOS, or BIOS-like entity, that handled the SATA controllers. I was not aware that there was such a thing as SATA speed autonegotiation, so I have learned something new today.Click to expand... http://66software.com/driver-sata/driver-sata-a7v600-x-site-asus.html Fammi sapere Primo post.

So I don't think the loading failure, is due to the driver or the BIOS looking for two drives and not finding them.
I have no idea how can enter this Raid settings alternatively. Both SATA drives are installed with no jumpers and working great. Did you have to enable any settings in the BIOS to get it to recognize the drive? So if the computer has add-in cards, that is a potential reason for the option ROM to not load. io ho avuto grossi problemi con i sata e questa scheda madre....me ne ha bruciati due...e nono sono stato l'unico sfigato!! One thread I was just reading, mentioned that the addition of a PCI SCSI card, can prevent the 6420R2xx option ROM from loading. Later it in this file I found > > "Make sure VT6420 BIOS is executed by the system BIOS when POST." > > But I don't know (1) how to check But in Windows device manager, I > see that it is not started but failed.
I would recommend that you send an e-mail to the technical support site for your motherboard and ask if those SATA first generation hard drives will work on that motherboard. I have tried to install different versions of the corresponding VIA drivers for VT8237. I had exactly same problem with my Seagate HDD and my Asus motherboard but when I put jumpers on my HDD started to work! I bought a 250GB Western Digital drive, plugged it in, booted to a Linux live CD in order to copy the data from the old drive and… nothing. Ho gią guardato mille volte... Several days ago I had the same idea of what you have explained here. My initial thoughts were that the drive was dead, but booting with the same Live CD and plugging the drive into an external SATA=>USB adaptor showed that the drive was available
I had no problems with Windows detecting it because I'd already gone to the trouble of updating the VIA drivers before purchasing the drive. Samsung SATA II drives have it clearly labeled and include a jumper and a little instruction sheet with their drives, but some of the older motherboards won't accept SATA II even It is a Hitachi 500 GB drive: HI T7K500 500 SA. Once again my PC could not see any disks.
